Places to see, things to do
Tangled Bank is wonderfully situated in an unspoilt, hidden corner of North Devon, off the beaten track but within easy reach of tourist attractions and amenities. We are within driving distance of some of England’s finest beaches and beauty spots. You’ll find plenty of places to go walking, cycling, golf at Chulmleigh, Libbaton and High Bullen, fishing, horse riding and much more.
There are a wide range of family friendly activities within easy reach, including Exmoor Zoo, The Big Sheep and Milky Way adventure parks, Castle Drogo, National Trust Arlington Court, RHS Garden Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal, the War Horse Valley County Farm Park Tapeley Park and Quince’s Honey Farm.
We are just a short drive to the beautiful sandy beaches of Westward Ho!, Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and Croyde. The pretty harbour towns of Ilfracombe, Combe Martin Porlock Hill, Instow, Bideford, Lynton & Lynmouth, Appledore and Clovelly are also close at hand.
Kings Nympton is a charming village with one of the best dining pubs in North Devon; the Grove Inn. It’s also on the Tarka Line, one of Britain’s most scenic railways. The Tarka trail is close at hand; a 180 mile walking/cycling route through tranquil countryside, rugged moorland and dramatic coast. Bicycle hire is available at Barnstaple and South Molton, both lively towns with markets and plenty of attractions including a colourful pannier market full of local produce. At Bideford you can jump on the Oldenburg and enjoy a day trip to Lundy Island. Less than a mile from us, Rosebud Alpacas host a range of wellbeing workshops including yoga with alpacas!
Exmoor National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty boasting some of the most stunning scenery in England, is just 20 minutes away. Why not explore it on a 4×4 off road safari or by horseback? Visit the legendary Doone Valley, or hop across Tarr Steps. Dartmoor, equally as striking and beautiful, is just a short drive away. There are several spectacular coastal paths to walk at Baggy Point, Heddon’s Mouth, Mortehoe or Lynton.
We have many excellent local pubs within easy reach, including The Grove Inn, The Stags Head Inn, The Exeter Inn, The Bell, and the Exmoor Forest Inn. Other local eateries include Stumbles, Rachels, and Zest.
Accessible Days Out
Castle Drogo, Broomhill Art Hotel and Sculpture Gardens and Dartington Hall are all worth a visit. The Lynton & Barnstaple Heritage Narrow Gauge Railway can take wheelchairs of up to 30 inches wide. The coast path at Baggy Point has also been levelled and widened to make it easier for wheelchairs.
